None of them have a moat...but one does have a murder room!

Today Dave and I spent all day looking up Ireland, trying to determine if the wedding we want would actually be possible. It would be a pretty huge disappointment to decide on the perfect wedding location only to realize that it wouldn't be at all feasible for us. I know we aren't planning a huge wedding, but we also don't have a lot to spend on this alternate idea of ours.

One of the first things we thought of, more on a whim than anything else, was that if we are getting married in Ireland, we should get married in a castle. I mean, who wouldn't want to get married in a castle?

As it turns out, renting a castle for a week is not as expensive as one might think. It's kind of like renting a cottage up north. You get exclusive rights to the property for a week, and it comes equipped with all the amenities one would need. Showers, a kitchen, living areas, and best of all, could house most, if not all, of the guests we would anticipate joining us of a week. That means, family and friends who wished to join us, would most likely only have to pay for airfare.

After hours of looking, these are our top four contenders:

Ballyportry Castle

Turin Castle

Killahara Castle

Fanningstown Castle

Now we just need to pick the right one for us! (If you want more information click on the castle names, and it will open the rental information...click on them, check it out, and then let us know what you think!)

Of course we each have our favorite, Dave's favorite is Turin being, for no other reason, that it has a murder hole. Silly me, I care more about decor and landscaping ;)

Here is what we have hashed out so far:

Sun...Sand...or Rain?

So even though I promised I wouldn't (sorry Dave!!) I immediately wanted to start planning a wedding. I have known for a long time that I haven't wanted to have a big wedding. I'm not sure exactly when the moment hit that having a whole day oriented around things being perfect, perfect hair, perfect flowers, perfect dress, perfect food, would be too much for me handle. Don't get me wrong, I love going to weddings and seeing how others put together large, beautiful events with all of their friends and family around, but I would be a nervous wreck. I would worry for the entire day about whether things were going well.

After deciding that I didn't want to have a big wedding, it was a pretty easy decision to plan a destination wedding instead, with only our closest friends and family in attendance.

We pooled our ideas and our top three locations included:

Hawaii
Las Vegas
Ireland
And, I'm sure it will come as no surprise that we chose IRELAND! This blog will follow, what I'm sure will be the ups and downs of planning our perfect wedding trip!

Want to kiss my Blarney Stone?

In case you missed the news....Dave and I are engaged! After nearly 9 years of dating, he (finally!) proposed, on Christmas morning, with all of our family there. It was such a wonderful and unexpected moment. I was completely surprised.

My favorite moment was after he proposed, and things had ever so slightly calmed down, Dave's nephew Zachary came up to me, gave me a huge hug, and said "I love you so super much!!" It was truly perfect.

Here are a few more pictures of my ring!!
